Die Photographische Sammlung/SK Stiftung Kultur has an extensive library that has continuously grown since 1992 and concentrates on the field of photography, in particular with regard to our collection. It includes artists’ monographs and international exhibition catalogues as well as a wide variety of material on the history of photography and individual photographic stances and techniques. There is research literature available in the form of university publications, newspaper clippings, and historical sources.
The library’s holdings comprise more than 7,200 volumes, of which more than 2,000 are inventory and exhibition catalogues and more than 700 auction catalogues. It furthermore contains 14,500 essays and brochures and the regular addition of current issues of important magazines on photography.
In 1992, about 900 volumes from the August Sander Private Library were purchased with the support of the REWE-Zentralfinanz eG. and they can also be viewed.
Because it is a reference library, books cannot be borrowed. However, it is possible to make copies (subject to a charge). There is an Internet workplace, and users may also work with their own computers at the premises.
Appointments to use the library can be made during its opening hours, Monday to Thursday from 8.30 a.m. to 1.00 p.m.
